Coming to you live from the Buffalo airport in cold, dreary, windy Buffalo, New York. I'm sitting here with the BFF of the fiancee, Gina(diehard FCD fan since 2004) we've got about 35 minutes before the bus to Toronto arrives.
I'll have pictures tomorrow, but here's a rundown of the day so far
5:30 AM- Alarm goes off way too early. Had to work until 11 last night and then pack/wind down. Needless to say, it takes me a little while to get out of bed, but I'm successfully able to get out of the house by 6:15 which was a victory in my book
7:00 AM- Made it through security without getting groped or a picture of my netherregions taken, I guess that's a success as well. The nice woman at security mentioned that she was going to watch the game on Sunday but would be flipping between that and the Giants-Eagles game....baby steps.
7:10 AM- Spot Lorenzo La Raza, an original 96er at the gate. Nice to have another FCD fan on the flight with me and someone who I've spent a lot of time in the stands with.
7:55 AM- Plane is delayed for about 15 minutes due to some "minor maintenance" had me a bit worried, but we took off in plenty of time.
9:00 AM- A baby that can't be more than 6 weeks out of the womb starts screaming two rows in front of me. I'm also pinned in the middle of a 3 seat row with two pretty big people....FML. Headphones are on trying to zone out.
Keep reading for more exciting travel adventures including the best plane ride I've ever had
10:30 AM- We're in Chicago and grab some much needed lunch at Chilis after about a 25 minute walk to our connecting flight to Buffalo...Chicken Tortilla soup...it was awesome.
11:30 AM- Boarding the flight to Buffalo on the absolute smallest plane I've ever been on. I've never seen a one seat row on a plane before until now. This plane had tons of leg room and I was on an exit row to make it even better. I never sleep on planes...until now. No noise, no one bothered me, it was probably the best plane ride I've ever had.
2:30 PM- Lorenzo and I touch down in Buffalo and meet up with Jose, Gina and Omar(a late addition to the MLS Cup group). Lorenzo and Jose are two of the leaders of El Matador and they've brought two drums to Toronto. The big bass drum and a snare...that's dedication folks. Jose, Lorenzo and Omar are renting a car because they have to get back to Toronto super early on Monday. I would ride with them but something always seems to go wrong with them on road trips.
2:45 PM Gina and I walk to the bus station in hopes of being let on the 3:00 bus to Toronto(we have tickets on the 4:15 bus). At the bus station we find Chamo and Parrish...two more Inferno members since 1996 and legends in some US Soccer circles. They have tickets on the 3:00 bus....a mean asian man driving the bus shuts down our efforts to get on the 3PM bus(which was 15 minutes late)
3:30 PM After standing outside for 30 minutes in freezing temps, it's nice to get back inside and defrost. Gina and I are sitting in some coffee shop right now waiting for our 4:15 bus. I suppose it's not the end of the world as my phone is getting some much needed juice.
So far I've seen 4 Rapids fans, all very nice. Nice to play a team with classy fans. The Dallas fan count that I've seen so far is 7.
Stay tuned to Big D Soccer as I blog later tonight on the scene in Toronto. I'm going to be off the Twitter grid due to international data charges. The party tonight is at Shoeless Joe's.....ready to get to T-Dot.
