FC Dallas vs Chivas USA

It sure is great to want to win games to stay in the Supporter's Shield race rather than hold on to some semblance of playoff hopes....

Anyways, Chivas USA comes to town tonight as a much different team than the one FCD pretty much dominated at the Home Depot Center earlier in the season. With 4 different starters last week compared to the lineup that Chivas threw out there against Dallas in June, it's safe to say that the win at the HDC has no effect on this game.

It seems like you get more and more of these as your team gets better, but this is another 3 points or bust game for Dallas. With a pretty bad offense and mediocre defense, there will be plenty of spots for FC Dallas to exploit and Chivas USA will be without one of their starters in defense as Mariano Trujillo was ejected in last week's game at Seattle.

I think this is going to be a hard fought and physical affair, as Chivas USA's games usually are, with the first team to score most likely winning. Fortunately, I think David Ferreira unlocks Chivas USA's defense giving Milton and Cunningham goals

Prediction: FC Dallas 2 Chivas USA 0

The very creepy looking Douglas Quinn has made a friendly wager with Chivas USA President Shawn Hunter.

The game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Pizza Hut Park and airing live on Fox Soccer Channel, is now the object of a friendly wager – loser buys four 2011 season tickets for the winner’s charity of choice. Should the two sides play to a draw, each CEO will purchase two tickets for the opponent’s charity of choice.

The match preview

Cunningham vs. the Chivas USA back line: The wily veteran striker has played in just 11 career matches against the Red-and-White, but has five goals and two assists in those games. Cunningham should come off the bench on Saturday and could provide a spark similar to what he did in FCD’s last two wins, when he had a total of three goals.

The Dallas Morning News game preview with a WHAT?! mixed in...if Brek can't play that's a big problem

FC Dallas (8-2-9, 33 pts.) has won four straight at home. ... Coach Schellas Hyndman said M Brek Shea (hamstring) might not be able to play. If he can't, Marvin Chavez could take his left wing spot, or Heath Pearce could move to the flank and newly signed D Jackson could step in at right back.

Andy Friedlander of the DMN writes that Daniel Hernandez is the bulldog of the team in central midfield.

"That's part of the job description," he said. "It's a position where you have to do the dirty work, so you want to put as much pressure on and play as hard as you can without getting kicked off the field. You're pushing the ref to the limit the full 90 minutes. You have to play smart, and I've had my share of yellow cards and red cards over the years, but I'm definitely not shying away or backing down.

"More than anything, it's the kind of player I am, giving 100 percent on every play and not giving an inch to anybody. That's my mentality on every play."

A great game preview from

FC Dallas:FCD haven't lost in 10. Chivas have won just 2 of their last 10. These teams are in very different situations, and though Chivas isn't mathematically eliminated from the post-season yet, they certainly aren't betting on it.
Only 4 goals separate Jeff Cunningham and Jaime Moreno on the MLS all-time scoring record. Cunningham will play like a man on a mission, when he gets on the field that is
