FC Dallas midfielder and 2011 MLS MVP finalist Brek Shea is among 23 players U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team head coach Caleb Porter named for a 10-day training camp in Frisco, Texas. The camp begins Feb. 19 and culminates with a match against Mexico’s U-23 National Team on Wed., Feb. 29 at FC Dallas Stadium.

In addition to the Mexico match, the U.S. U-23s will hold scrimmages against FC Dallas of Major League Soccer on Wed., Feb. 22, and the North American Soccer League's new franchise, the San Antonio Scorpions, on Friday, Feb. 24.

Shea is one of five players called into this camp that were not previously with Porter and the U-23 team. Shea had been busy at those times playing for the senior national team under Jurgen Klinsmann.

This is the first big step for Shea to be apart of the 2012 Olympic team, should the US advance to the London games.

FC Dallas and Atlante Forming Partnership?

Photo

Partner clubs. That is something we haven't heard FC Dallas talk about in a couple years.

Sure we know about the ones with Tigres UANL and Clube Atlético Paranaense. But anything outside of those two clubs we haven't heard about in some time.

But that could all change as the club is currently in Cancun, Mexico right now training at Mexican club Atlante this week.

Raymundo Palacios, vice president of Atlante, claims that the Cancun-based club and FC Dallas are in talks to develop a sporting relationship. (Spanish Article)

Brek Shea Called up to USA, Training at Arsenal

CARSON, CA - JUNE 18: Brek Shea #20 of FC Dallas celebrates his first half goal against Chivas USA during their MLS match at The Home Depot Center on June 18, 2011 in Carson, California. (Photo by Victor Decolongon/Getty Images)

Well this is some very interesting news. Brek Shea has been called up to the US Men's National Team Squad for the European friendlies at France on November 11 and at Slovenia, November 15th.

The groundbreaking news in the FC Dallas release, however, is the news that after his time with the national team, Shea will head to London to train with English giants Arsenal FC as a guest before returning to Dallas where 2012 pre-season will start on January 15.

"Brek matured as a player and as a leader on the field this past season. It was a career year for him," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. "He consolidated himself as one of the top players in MLS and solidified his role with the U.S. National Team. Affording Brek the opportunity to continue to work on improving his game and measure himself among the best players in the world is something we are all excited about. It’s a winning situation for Brek, FC Dallas and the U.S. team, as the extra training time will help push his game to the next level."

For me, this is really great news for all sides. There's plenty of speculation that Shea will be sold this winter, speculation I don't agree with, and this training stint will expose Shea to the level he needs to get to in order to make it on the international stage.

It's a way for Dallas to give Shea some exposure to a Champions League club, while likely ensuring that Shea stays with Dallas through next season. Great news and congratulations to Brek!

Not a lot of details have been given to me but the news of the morning should excite some of you. Defender George John is turning to FC Dallas as his deal with EPL side Blackburn Rovers falls through.

"Despite mutual interest, Blackburn Rovers and George John have decided not to enter into a contract," FC Dallas President and CEO Doug Quinn said. "Blackburn had significant interest in acquiring George; however, for the time being, they decided not to finalize the deal. We are excited to have a player of George's caliber back at FC Dallas."

John will meet the club in Seattle for the USOC semifinal on Tuesday with the Seattle Sounders

USOC Finals Potential Hosting Scenarios

Photo

The USSF released the potential hosting sites for this year's US Open Cup finals and for Dallas the news isn't all that great. Should Dallas win next Tuesday in Seattle, the only hope of the club hosting the finals are if the USL-Pro's Richmond Kickers upset the Chicago Fire on that same night.

Kind of stinks but at the same time we shouldn't be too shocked it see Dallas' bid be less than whatever it was Chicago was bidding. You have to remember the Fire have nothing to lose and all to gain with this tournament.
