It isn't a big name, or even someone that would occupy a Designated Player slot but it is an interesting move that FC Dallas announced on Friday. The club has signed Brazilian defensive midfielder Erick Neres de Cruz to a contract.
The 24-year old midfielder recently played in the Portuguese second-division with Portimonense. Erick netted two goals for Portimonense in 25 appearances during the 2012-13 campaign. Portimonense finished the season in sixth place with a record of 17-12-13.
"Erick is a very aggressive ball-winner who has gained a lot of experience the past few seasons in Portugal," said FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo. "He is another strong addition to an already talented roster that has FC Dallas near the top of the table in 2013."
Erick originally played in Brazil for Sao Paulo in 2009 but later transferred to transferred to Estoril of the Portuguese second division.
The Brazilian had been training with the club for the last week and will be eligible to play likely starting next weekend against Real Salt Lake.
