MLS Fantasy Manager: Week Five

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas faces bitter rivals Houston in the Texas Derby.

Week five is rivalry week. Dallas vs Houston, Portland vs Seattle, Chivas USA vs Los Angeles, and other great games. Let's take a look at how this impacts your Fantasy team.

FC Dallas

Shorthanded, FCD pulled off a good win against Portland last week. But now they face Houston in the Texas Derby. This could be one of the best matchups between the two in a long time.

Who to start/add

Mauro Diaz $8.0 - Diaz is on fire. He faces a tough task in outplaying Ricardo Clark on the road. But, I'm sure if there's anyone on this team that can get some points on the road, it's Mauro.

Blas Perez $9.0 - Oscar Pareja gave him an extra day to rest this week. I think it will pay off not only for this week, but for the long season ahead.

Who not to start/add

Stephen Keel $6.0 - The man has done a solid job in the absence of George John. But, that doesn't necessarily always translate into fantasy points. In his case, so far, it hasn't. I'd stay away from him.

Hendry Thomas $6.5 - Again, Thomas has been awesome in the two games he has played so far. But, he isn't exactly raking in the points. He will probably only get you a consistent 2-3 points every game.

MLS

This week should be a fun one. A lot of rivalry games on display. Here are some good match-ups and some to avoid.

Who to start/add

Michael Parkhurst $7.6 - Parkhurst did go the full 90 minutes against Mexico Wednesday night. But, with Jermain Defoe out and how hot Columbus is right now, I'd play him. Toronto is shorthanded at the moment. I can see the Crew pitching a shutout at home this week.

Federico Higuain $10.6 - Like I said, Toronto will be shorthanded. A key player, other than Defoe, that will be missing is their captain Steve Caldwell. Toronto's backline isn't that great. With the absence of Caldwell, I'd expect Higuain to take full advantage.

Robbie Keane $10.7 - Keane is a goal machine. The defense of Chivas USA isn't something to write home about. You do the math. That means a lot of chances for Keane and the Galaxy. More likely than not, Keane will be the one seizing those chances.

Who not to start/add

Mark Bloom $6.0 - We don't know for sure who has won the battle for the right back spot on Toronto FC. I'd stay away from both of Bloom and Bradley Orr. Especially because of all the absentees in Toronto, not to mention they will be on the road and playing against arguably the hottest team in MLS right now.

Tony Beltran $7.0 - Beltran played almost the full game against Mexico. He will be tired. Having to matchup against Graham Zusi/Dom Dwyer/Benny Feilhaber on the road will be hard even if he was at full stamina.

Drew Moor $7.0 - Vancouver has been very good at home. Colorado has gotten lucky with a lot of PKs called their way. I think Vancouver's speed/tricks will be too much for the Rapids backline that will be without Chris Klute and Marvell Wynne.
