Mauro Diaz Wins Etihad MLS Player of the Month

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The awards keep coming in for Mauro Diaz.

While the regular press voted award will come out tomorrow for the March Player of the Month, the fan vote wrapped up with the lone FC Dallas representative taking home the award. Mauro Diaz has run away with the first Etihad Airlines MLS Player of the Month award.

Diaz earned 63% of the fan vote, basically running away with the first monthly award.

In four matches this season, he has been the catalyst for the league's top offense, notching two goals and an assist (sadly though that lovely pass to Je-Vaughn Watson against Chivas didn't count as an official assist) in FCD's unbeaten start to the campaign.

Since joining FCD last July, the Young Designated Player has played 14 games with five goals and three assists to his name, averaging a goal or assist every 96 minutes. Let that sink in for a moment. He's producing or contributing to a goal in nearly every game that he is playing in. That is massive.

The final voting finished like this:

  1. Mauro Díaz (DAL) 63.61%
  2. Nick Rimando (RSL) 18.38%
  3. Michael Bradley (TOR) 8.01%
  4. Federico Higuain (CLB) 7.26%
  5. Will Bruin (HOU) 2.74%
