FC Dallas loans Brian “Cobi” Span to USL PRO side Orlando City SC

USA TODAY Sports

The midfielder will get some valuable minutes for the future MLS side.

FC Dallas has finally jumped on the loan game this season as they have announced on Wednesday that midfielder Brian 'Cobi' Span has been loaned to USL PRO side Orlando City SC for the 2014 season.

FCD has the option of recalling Span at anytime during the loan.

Span was acquired in a weighted lottery conducted by Major League Soccer on Jan. 9, 2014. The 22-year-old spent the past two seasons with Swedish first-division side Djurgårdens IF, where he made 14 appearances and scored one goal.

This is certainly a good move for Span to earn some minutes. Orlando City is currently getting prepared for their MLS expansion season next year and in a small way this is a chance for him to prove himself to both clubs that he has worth holding on to for 2015.

FC Dallas is expected to loan out at least two more players in the coming weeks. There is plenty of speculation as to who those players might be. My gut tells me Jonathan Top is a prime candidate, as is someone like keeper Jesse Gonzalez, midfielder Danny Garcia and Ryan Hollingshead.
