Span leads Orlando to victory over Charleston
The first appearance for Span with Orlando was a good one as he helped lift the Lions over their rivals, the Charleston Battery on Saturday night 1-0. Span scored the loan goal in the 57th minute. Span took a pass from Adama Mbengue, took one touch and then blasted a shot with his left foot by the Charleston keeper.
Span came off the bench to start the second half and really couldn't have had a better introduction to the future MLS expansion side.
"I was pleased for him," Head Coach Adrian Heath said on Monday after training. "I'm a firm believer of - you get out of life what you put into it, and he's been working extremely hard. I'm glad that he was rewarded for his performance with a goal." via OrlandoCitySoccer.com
Span and Orlando will square off against FC Dallas in a Reserve League match next Tuesday. For those wondering, Span is eligible to play against his MLS club.
Top earns first start with Arizona
The first game of the season for Arizona United SC didn't go nearly as well though as they played a man-down for the entire second half and lost 4-0 to Oklahoma City Energy FC in their first match of the season.
FCD loanee Jonathan Top started the match with other former FC Dallas players London Woodberry and Bradlee Baladez. Woodberry would be ejected for a second yellow right before halftime in the loss. Oklahoma City scored all four goals in the second half.
Top only played 59 minutes in this one with one shot on goal.
Arizona will return to action this weekend against another expansion side in the USL when they host Sacramento Republic FC.
