We're back with a quick scouting piece for tomorrow's game against Sporting Kansas City. We sat down with ben Gartland of TheDailyWiz.com, SB Nation's Sporting KC blog.
1) After such a strong showing last season, it's surprising to see Sporting in 5th place. What has been te stumbling block? Will SKC make the playoffs?
May and June are historically bad months for Peter Vermes' teams so I have no doubt that Sporting will turn it around in the coming months. We've had everything from Zusi and Besler leaving for national team duty to poor play from the wings and and overall lethargic attitude in some matches. Like I said above I have no doubt that the team will pull together once everything settles down and will make a strong showing in the playoffs.
2) how has the return of Kei Kamara impacted the squad? What's his mindset since coming back? Do you think he will have suitors again this summer?
Kei Kamara has been a great addition ever since he came back. He's been a great person to have on the wing and his ever present optimism is something that this team really benefits from. I'm certain that Norwich may try and buy him back or another premier league team will look for him at some point this summer. If I were a betting man I'd feel safe saying that Kei Kamara will not be in a Sporting uniform come September 1st.
3) The FCD owners are very hungry for the 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. What happened to Sporting to see them crash out so early as the current cup holders?
Sporting was missing a lot of people due to national team duty but their depth should've been enough to win the match against Orlando. Simply put the players were lethargic and didn't seem to want it as much as OCSC. Unfortunately that's the way it is sometimes in the USOC but I do not envy the Fire and any other teams that may have to face that Orlando side.
