Unbeaten Run Extended: FCD Downs Vancouver 2-0

FC Dallas extends their unbeaten run to six games Saturday night with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Goals came from Blas Perez and an own goal by Vancouver to help seal the three points. The shutout was also the second in a row and the fifth on the season.

FC Dallas caught Vancouver on the counter attack early in the second half. Jackson Goncalves brilliantly played a ball from one end to the other to Kenny Cooper. Cooper then played Jair Benitez into the box from that ball but Benitez's shot on goal was blocked back out to Cooper. The veteran striker took one dribble and ripped a shot only to get deflected into the goal by the head of Blas Perez.

Vancouver started the game with a couple of their key offensive players on the bench in Darren Mattocks and Camilo Sanvezzo. Both entered the game in the second half and each caused issues for Dallas. Mattocks with his speed and Camilo with his skill on the ball.

Dallas pressured the ball early in the first half creating loads of chances off free kicks and corner kicks. It wasn't until the 29th minute that the Hoops made their first break through off a David Ferreira corner kick. Ferreira sent the ball right into the mixer, looking for George John but it was partially blocked by Caps defender Brad Rusin into the net for the games' first goal.

Vancouver did have one moment right before the half that nearly leveled the game when rookie Erik Hurtado beat Jair Benitez on the wing, he sent the ball into the box where Raul Fernandez tied to get a glove on it but his block found the feet of Matt Watson, who got a shot off but was thankfully saved off the line by John.

More from this game coming up tomorrow...stay tuned!
