Dallas had been pressing for a goal thanks to a wild sequence of plays that happened right around the 60 minute mark of the match.
Right after the hour mark in the match, a ball was sent forward to Blas Perez, who battled with LA defender Leonardo in the box for it. Leonardo pulled Perez down in the box on the play, which resulted in a red card and a penalty kick. LA was saved however by keeper Carlo Cudicini on the penalty kick taken by Kenny Cooper. The veteran striker put it on the left side of the goal where Cudicini's hands got a hold of it.
Minutes later LA got a penalty kick of their own when John pulled down Homegrown striker Jose Villarreal in the box. But like we mentioned earlier, this one was crazy as Raul Fernandez saved Landon Donovan's kick. The penalty miss by Donovan was just his third ever in MLS as he is now a ridiculous 34 of 37 from the penalty spot in MLS play.
Even with the man advantage you wouldn't have realized it. LA controlled more of the play with Donovan playing in the center of the midfield as a playmaker.
The penalty miss wasn't the only trouble for Cooper on the night. Moments before his miss from the spot, the veteran defender took a crafty ball from the top of the penalty box. He turned, shot and scored on the play but it wasn't meant to be as the sideline official called him offside.
