Tuesday afternoon marked the 2013 FC Dallas Media Day at FC Dallas Stadium. Players were running around taking head shots, signing autographs for various things and taking interviews. FC Dallas manager Schellas Hyndman spent a while with the media after all the players finished up and offered up some interesting nuggets on the new season and on a potential player signing.
That one potential signing centers around former Dallas Burn/FC Dallas midfielder Ramon Nunez. For weeks the club has been working with Nunez on a deal to bring him in as the potential backup to David Ferreira.
Hyndman offered up some updates to the deal with the veteran midfielder and from the sounds of things, the two sides are very close.
"I think we are very close to it," said Hyndman. "We're in final negotiations right now and Ramon wants to be in Dallas, he wants to be back home."
Hyndman didn't offer up a specific time frame of when Nunez would be signed but did expect to see a different player in Dallas than the one fans may remember from a few years ago.
"You remember when he played here for the Dallas Burn and it was a bit of a rocky time for him partly because of the direction he had been asked to play or it being a young player. Between that time and this time, eight years, and remember I had him when he was 17 at SMU. I see a lot of maturity," said Hyndman.
Hyndman was also quick to point out that the one thing that the club needs to give to Nunez is just time itself.
"I think right now he is a player that we're just going to have to give the time to him to get him completely healthy," said Hyndman.
Landing a healthy Nunez would likely fill out the roster for the 2013 season for FC Dallas.
