FC Dallas needed to improve on Sunday's 0-0 draw and they did just that defeating the Portland Timbers 1-0 on Wednesday night at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland to take first place in the Portland Preseason tournament with one game left to play. My thoughts on the win which was sealed by a Blas Perez goal in the 16th minute.
Ferreira Move Pays Dividends The obvious talking point from this one is moving David Ferreira from central mid out to the left wing while inserting Bobby Warshaw to play next to Andrew Jacobson in the center. It was a move that certainly paid dividends for Schellas Hyndman as his squad held the possession much better in the midfield and created a number of chances against a Portland reserve side. It's going to be very interesting to see if he sticks with this one.
Perez on Point I thought Blas Perez was very sharp tonight playing off Kenny Cooper. He held the ball up quite well and smacked home his one real chance of the match on a poachers finish that was much tougher than it looked. How frustrating it must be for FCD that he's suspended for the first two this year.
Two Shutouts While the offense is still clearly finding it's way, it has to be said that the FC Dallas defense is really playing well right now. Two straight shutouts for Schellas Hyndman's side and two very strong performances from the starters in defense. If there's one part of your team you want to have sorted at the start of the year, it's certainly the defense and there's not too much worry on that one after these two performances.
What did you see from the game tonight? Did Michel impress you and how did you see Je-Vaughn Watson's FCD debut?
