FC Dallas fans can scratch one more name off the list of coaching candidates. Friday it was announced that the Chicago Fire have hired former Columbus Crew interim manager Brian Bliss to be their new technical director.
Bliss joins the Fire after six years serving as the Technical Director of the Columbus Crew. On Sept. 2, 2013 Bliss was appointed Interim Head Coach of the Crew, where he led the Crew to a 4-4-0 record to close out the 2013 season.
Bliss had interviewed with the Hunts for the open coaching vacancy in Dallas. Big D Soccer was able to confirm that he was one of the new that interviewed for the position here recently.
I, like some of you, are pretty relieved to cross his name off the list. Sure Bliss had a nice run in Columbus, helping guide them to a nice turnaround late in the season that nearly saw them reach the MLS Cup playoffs. He also clearly knows the league well enough as he built a team that won a Supporters' Shield and won a MLS Cup. Still it seemed like going for him would just be the Hunt thing to do, extend the olive branch in some way to a guy they knew and respected.
I do expect more to come out of this search in the next two weeks. It really seems like we are ramping up things a bit on this search and could be getting closer.
(Editor's note: Apologies for not posting this yesterday, like some of you, I was without power for the majority of Friday.)
