Two midfielders were let go today.
FC Dallas announced Wednesday that they have waived midfielders Ricardo Villar and James Marcelin.
Villar signed two years ago with FC Dallas, a part of the Barry Gorman signings. He played in 29 matches, scoring two goals and adding two assists. The 33-year old was injured much of the 2012 season after starting off strong in the early part of the 2012 campaign.
Marcelin joined FC Dallas on May 4, 2012. The defensive midfielder played in 16 games for FC Dallas last season. He previously played for the Portland Timbers before getting cut early in the 2012 season.
Neither had been with the club so far this preseason and have now been officially waived. Marcelin isn't a total shock to see waived by the club. The addition of Peter Luccin this offseason seal his fate in some ways. Villar on the other hand looked to be back for another season but late in the 2012 season when he was healthy it was evident that the club was thinking about going in another direction. Losing him does create some holes in the depth chart though.
Tomorrow we'll have an updated look at the depth chart and what this all means for the club.
