The Supplemental Draft came and went for FC Dallas without raising too many eyebrows this afternoon.
In the first round, FCD selected midfielder Cameron Brown from UNC. He's a local kid who was very highly regarded coming out of Naaman Forest and Solar, but suffered a knee injury that kept him out of NCAA soccer for two years before coming back to the Tar Heels mostly in a reserve role.
Their second round pick is a goalkeeper, Kyle Zobeck from Valparaiso. Zobeck actually has a chance of hanging around for a little while as Dallas will need a fourth goalkeeper for their trips and he probably has the best chance of even making the squad if Dallas chooses to keep four with Richard Sanchez gone with the Mexico U20s
In the third round, FCD took a midfielder, Cam Wilder from Kentucky. Honestly, he's a guy I know nothing about. Looks to be a pretty small midfielder.
In the fourth round, Dallas filled their SMU quotient taking defensive midfielder TJ Nelson from SMU. Nelson moved to D-mid after playing at outside back early in his Mustang career...he's a guy who gets by on a ton of effort, but probably doesn't have much professional prospects. Like last year's pick Ian Kalis, we may see him as a practice player from time to time.
You'll see people gushing about other team's supplemental drafts, but in reality this is really a non-starter for FC Dallas with so many homegrown playrs. Do you want some speculative college player coming in and taking reserve minutes from Kellyn Acosta or Bradlee Baladez?
