FC Dallas Takes Ryan Hollingshead at Number 20

At the beginning of the second round, with the 20th overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, FC Dallas has selected UCLA midfielder Ryan Hollingshead.

Hollingshead made some headlines over the last couple weeks for skipping the MLS Combine for pursuing a religious mission. This is a very interesting choice considering there may be a chance that he may not pursue a professional career in soccer.

Should he actually play, which will likely come later this spring/summer, Hollingshead will be a solid addition. Dallas will need to sort out his future, and possibly the club is just hedging their bet that he will eventually play.

Honestly, before he claimed to be going on a missionary project before the Combine, I would have said this would be a heck of a pick up for Dallas. As we all know the club needs depth and help on the wings and Hollingshead would be just that guy to do it. But if he isn't going to play at all this year, then this could just be a wasted pick at the end of the day.

FC Dallas Selects Walker Zimmerman

The pick is finally in! With the number seven pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, FC Dallas has selected Furman centerback and member of Generation adidas, Walker Zimmerman.

Dallas was able to snag Zimmerman due to a injury that Zimmerman was carrying going into the MLS Combine. Zimmerman skipped the Combine and saw his draft stock fall.

This is a big value pick though for Dallas. Zimmerman won't count against the salary cap and will be a guy that can compete in the back with the likes of Matt Hedges and George John. He has a high ceiling, and could be a strong player for the future.

It was certainly surprising to see Dallas select a young player like Zimmerman but I will tell you this, he is a big kid with so much potential. He is excellent on set pieces and will do well with this group. This is a shocker as you all may know for Dallas but this is a solid selection that may have just been too good to pass up.
