2013 MLS Mock Drafts: Who is FC Dallas Taking?

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Searching the national mock drafts to see who people think FC Dallas will take

We will be releasing the results of our SB Nation Mock MLS Draft at noon today, but what are the national writers saying about who FC Dallas will take at #7 overall? Let's take a quick look.

This one is a bit dated, but Top Drawer Soccer has FCD taking a winger at #7 overall

When Hurtado’s Home Grown status with Portland was rejected, he immediately shot up draft boards across the league. The speedy winger is an immediate difference maker and provides depth for FCD out wide, something the team needed last year.

Soccer by Ives is a huge resource for everything MLS draft and his latest mock draft has a central midfielder landing in Dallas

The retirement of Daniel Hernandez and expected departure of Julian DeGuzman leaves Dallas short on defensive midfield/central midfield options, even with the addition of Peter Luccin. Enter Powers, a skilled two-way midfielder and Dallas native. He isn’t a Generation adidas player, which is something Dallas might want to try and land to help their salary cap situation, but Powers could be a good fit in the Dallas midfielder. Santa Clara forward/winger Erik Hurtado would also be an appealing option for Schellas Hyndman.

Ives also has a must-read observation piece today that has a very interesting tidbit from a past Schellas Hyndman draft.

The Timbers moved out of the first round by dealing the No. 3 overall pick to Toronto FC in a deal that landed them Ryan Johnson. It appears Caleb Porter and Portland want back into the first round, with rumors swirling that the Timbers are trying to trade their way back in.

What would Portland have to surrender to move into the first round? The $75,000 in allocation money they are set to receive for the rights to Robbie Findley could help facilitate a deal. It should be noted that just as recently as 2010, a first-round pick was traded for $150,000 in allocation money (FC Dallas sold the No. 7 overall pick in 2010 for that amount to the Philadelphia Union).

The first MLSsoccer.com mock draft was all over the board on who FCD would take.

Many want to slot Kekuta Manneh here, perhaps because he lives in Texas. But Schellas Hyndman's team doesn't need trickery and cleverness. FC Dallas need speed and they'll get it with Brown.

And their most recent mock draft is about the same.

Probably the day's best player. Stertzer comes from a program that plays a pretty static midfield, but spent the day in a 4-3-3 interchanging with Lopez and Alex Isern, and did it beautifully.

Finally, give a read to Matt Doyle's FC Dallas draft preview that does a great job at showing the current FCD depth chart.
