One other interesting point of discussion in today's end of the season media conference call with FC Dallas technical director Fernando Clavijo was that of former United States national team forward and current Fox Sports broadcaster Eric Wynalda.
Wynalda's name has been thrown around for the last couple of years for various MLS coaching vacancies but it appears he won't be making the cut on the FC Dallas shortlist this time around.
"It is a short list of candidates, one of the things they need to have is definite experience as an assistant coach, as a head coach in MLS or in a lower division," said Clavijo. "I don't believe, unless I'm completely wrong, that Eric has coached. By the way, he's one of the greatest players to ever play in the United States, so I have great respect for him. But right now we are looking for somebody with more experience and more 'ready-made coach'."
Certainly Wynalda has coached before, but for an amateur team. He has been the technical director of the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks this year but to his point, Wynalda hasn't coached on a higher level than that.
Clavijo wouldn't give any specifics as to who is on the club's shortlist for manager either but from the sound of things, the club is having to play a bit of a waiting game during the playoffs before they can really get anything done.
