Recall that little nugget we mentioned last week about a new striker signing with FC Dallas? Well, consider this the first shoe to drop in that process.

FC Dallas announced today that they have loaned Home Grown Player Ruben Luna to the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL (D-2) for the remainder of the NASL season. San Antonio has six games remaining on their season plus playoffs after that.

FC Dallas can recall Luna at any time.

The San Antonio side has already clinched a playoff berth for the 2012 NASL season and is home to several former FC Dallas players, including Aaron Pitchkolan, Blake Wagner and Jeff Cunningham. San Antonio is 12-6-4 on the season.

"Just as we did with Moises Hernandez, we thought this was a good opportunity for a young player to get the games he needs to continue his development," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. "It's nice having a team like San Antonio so geographically close. It gives Ruben the chance to really speed up the growth process, without us having to send him too far away."

This is an excellent move by FC Dallas. Getting these young players experience in games is absolutely vital to their growth. I wish FC Dallas could loan out a couple more of their home grown players to teams like San Antonio but given how tricky loans can be this may just be a "wait and see how it goes" kind of thing before the club starts to do more with San Antonio.

Luna has seen more minutes in recent weeks due to Scott Sealy and Blas Perez being sidelined. FC Dallas is expected to announce a new striker to the roster in the coming days and this was a move that was likely required to happen in order to make room on the roster for a new player.
