July actually wasn't that bad for FCD. An 8 point haul from 6 games isn't the end of the world, though things could have been so much different if Dallas could have just scored a few more goals. Disappointing 1-1 and 0-0 draws to open the month set a bad tone and a missed Jair Benitez penalty in San Jose also cost Dallas a point. When you look back at the six games played, FCD was really outplayed only in the 1-0 loss to LA.
Needing probably 7-8 wins out of their last 11 games to have a prayer of playoffs, August is certainly a daunting task that will have players and fans ruing the missed points of July(and previous months). Let's take a look at what greets Dallas over these five games.
8/5 at Portland Timbers - Jeld-Wen Field 6PM NBC Sports Network
A rematch of the 5-0 drubbing Dallas gave Portland a couple weeks ago. Amazingly, this is just the second trip to Portland for Dallas since the Timbers joined the league last season, a trip that was the last game before David Ferreira's broken foot.
A lot has changed since that game of more than a year ago, with both teams battling it out at the foot of the Western Conference table. It's obviously a must-win game for FC Dallas while Portland will be wanting to gain some revenge.
8/11 vs Colorado Rapids - FC Dallas Stadium 8PM TXA 21
Oscar Pareja brings his reeling Colorado Rapids side on the 11th for a Saturday night matchup against Dallas. Colorado has traditionally struggled in regular season matchups in Dallas, but they won their last game here 2-0 in the meeting where Dallas had two men sent off in the first half.
Colorado has lost six games in a row as Pareja struggles to find the right solutions, but they're never an easy team to play. The fact remains that the next two FC Dallas opponents are 0-10-0 in their last 10 games combined and 6 points from the next two games would make the run to the end of the season very interesting.
But from here it gets tough...
8/15 at Vancouver Whitecaps - BC Place 9PM FSSW+
An extremely tough game awaits Dallas after Colorado as they'll take the longest road trip of the season up to Vancouver on just four days rest to play the Whitecaps. Dallas lost to the Whitecaps 1-0 in a game they actually played very well in earlier this year, though this Whitecaps team and that team are very different.
The Whitecaps have been stumbling a bit lately with just one win in their last five, but this is certainly one you wouldn't pencil in as a win for Dallas.
8/18 at Real Salt Lake - Rio Tinto Stadium 8PM FSSW
FC Dallas is ridiculously forced to play at Real Salt Lake on three days rest for the second time this season, in what will be another very very tough game. RSL sits just two points behind San Jose for the Supporter's Shield lead at the moment.
8/26 at LA Galaxy - Home Depot Center 6PM NBC Sports Network
Dallas plays their third road game in 12 days at Los Angeles to close out August and their three-game road trip. Should FCD end up making some noise earlier in the month this could be an enormous game, or it could be a late-afternoon slog at the end of August in Los Angeles. I guess we'll just wait and see on this one...
