While FC Dallas was playing down in San Jose, the U18s were locked in a crucial match against Baltimore Bays Chelsea in the second of their three group stage games at Development Academy Finals Week. With Solar having won both their first two matches, FCD needed to win against Baltimore but found themselves down 1-0 at halftime.
A second half goal from Danny Garcia tied things, but Dallas was still on the outside looking in until Jonathan Top put Dallas in front with basically the last kick of the game. The win sets up a do or die matchup against Solar whom FCD is 2-0 against this season. I can't wait until the video comes out from the goals yesterday.
There have actually been a few good pieces about FCD and Jonathan Top in the last few days.
Scott Brown has an excellent piece this morning recapping last night's win and the motivation that is behind winning for a fallen teammate.
And here is his recap of last night's dramatic win
Darren Lovell notes that the two goalscorers yesterday turned down U20 callups to contest for a national championship with their clubs.
And Travis Clark has a look at Jonathan Top and his hard work to get where he's currently at.
Should FCD beat Solar tomorrow, they will play in the U18 national championship game for the second straight year on Sunday night at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
