Hey everybody, thought I'd bring you a little bit about Charlotte Eagles, a unique team that FCD has never played before. Charlotte play in the USL Pro League which is either on par or a little bit lower than NASL pretty much depending on the team. Charlotte is in 9th place in the 11-team league which is led by Orlando City with 23 points from 9 games.
Charlotte has 8 points from their 11 games with 9 goals scored and 16 goals allowed, however they have been a decent road team with a 2-3-1 record. They've gone 1-3-1 in their last 5 games and head to Dallas after a 2-1 road loss at Orlando City on Saturday night.
Probably their most dangerous attacking threat is Trinidad & Tobago forward Darryl Roberts who was a college start at Liberty University and spent 5 years in Europe with Sparta Rotterdam and Denizlispor before returning to the States with Charlotte. He's got three goals in five games for the Eagles.
They also feature a Colombian by the name of Jorge Herrera who has been with Charlotte for a long time, coming to the States after runs with some pretty big teams in Colombia. The only name on the squad that I recognized was winger Scott Jones who went to Jesuit, was drafted by FCD in 2007 and made the squad but was waived the following year and ended up down in Puerto Rico.
Charlotte made it to the third round by defeating PDL side El Paso Patriots in the second round and will be playing their first ever game against an MLS team in US Open Cup play as well as their first appearance in the third round having gone no farther than the third round on any previous occasion.
Enjoy the game tonight, if you can't make it to Frisco, I hear there is going to be a webcast of it on the FCD website.
