It's time to hand out our first award for player of the month. It wasn't the best month FCD has ever had, with 4 points from 4 games, but there are certainly a few decent performances worthy of a player of the month award.
The first candidate is our Panamanian forward Blas Perez. Mighty Mouse burst onto the MLS scene with a bang in March, having a big hand in every one of FCD's five goals in the month, tallying two goals, two assists and earning the foul on the other goal. His size and tactical awareness have given every team's defense a ton of problems and just think of how many goals he could have scored if he was given decent service! A great month for Blas and one he will hope to duplicate in April.
Candidate #2 is a bit of a surprise as Ricardo Villar did more in the month of March 2012 for FC Dallas than he did in the entire 2011 season. With 2 goals, including the game winner against New York, Villar has been fantastic in an attacking midfield role displaying a ton of grit and toughness while his finesse has kept FCD alive in some games. The free kick goal in Kansas City was a thing of beauty and his absence has been notable when he's been forced to come out of games early.
Candidate #3 is another newcomer, defender Hernan Pertuz. While he didn't have the best game in DC, and who did, he was a calming defensive presence in the first three games and it's tough to pinpoint a goal against on one of his errors. Pertuz's passing out of the back has been fantastic so far this season and he looks like a guy that could be here for a long time.
