The first big news involves another FCD Supplemental Draft pick earning a contract.
According to former teammate Ethan White, Alex Lee has made the team with Dallas and has been offered a contract. Lee is a right back who impressed in every game he played, showing a desire to make runs forward while showing gritty defending. What I've told many people about my impression of Lee is that so many draft picks come in and simply want to blend in and not make a mistake. In what I saw of Lee, he wanted to make an impression on the coaching staff and he obviously did.
Some other big news is that Ugo Ihemelu is your 2012 FC Dallas Team Captain. With Daniel Hernandez moving into a player/coach role, this was probably the right move and Ugo is a guy that will probably be here for the rest of his career.
“I believe that was something Ugo felt he needed to do,” head coach Schellas Hyndman told MLSsoccer.com by phone earlier this week. “We all support him here. Daniel Hernandez was our captain for three years, but now he is going to be our player-coach. We are very excited about having him do that, and I believe he will be a good coach in the MLS some day.”

David Ferreira was in a walking boot tonight, but hopes to be ready for the season opener. Obviously, he won't play against Houston tomorrow and I think he showed enough against Orlando to prove he has the fitness to play opening day if his body cooperates.
“I think he’s really frustrated the fact that he got kicked so many times and it continued,” Hyndman said of the match against Orlando City. “He’s in a lot greater pain than he lets on. My comment to him is that we’ve got a week and hopefully he’ll be ready to go in a week and his goal is to be available for the season opener. It’d be a shame if he’s not making it because of this [Disney Pro Soccer Classic tournament].”
Dallas' opponent on March 11 is also being struck by the injury bug. Wilman Conde, Teemu Tainio and Luke Rodgers are all doubts for the home opener.
Conde, whose rights were acquired from the Chicago Fire Jan. 30, arrived with a foot injury and has been limited in the preseason. In Wednesday’s 2-1 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in Tucson, Ariz., Conde was replaced in the 20th minute after straining his thigh.
And finally, speaking of injuries, Zac Lee Rigg has compiled an awesome list of some of the most hilarious self-inflicted injuries. A great read.
