FC Dallas News Update 3/13

High Five X2

Tons of news to go over as we begin to turn our attention towards game number 2 against Portland on Saturday night. First off, I want to issue an extremely sincere and humble thanks to everyone who came out to pub night last night! We had a great crowd of 60+ to watch the game and chat with myself, Steve Davis, Drew Epperley and a special guest, FCD TV and Mavs voice Mark Followill who spent about an hour with us last night.

Gina Zippilli won our trivia challenge(which I will post tomorrow) and a brand new FC Dallas jersey while Brian Wachholz won an official Nike Dallas Cup match ball, Brad Robison won a Brek Shea designed watch that hasn't hit stores yet while others got Dallas Cup tickets, FCD vs Portland Tickets and $2.50 pints!

Can't wait for the next one! On to the news in a quick and dirty version today...

Apparently, Richard Sanchez, out of the blue, is training with Chelsea this week. This news isn't really surprising, and his situation is going to be a very interesting one to track. If Chelsea ends up being impressed with the kid and offers FC Dallas a nice transfer fee, you'd have to think they would sell him and would probably be correct to do so.

"As of now, they see Richard as a goalkeeper with a great future and an interesting profile," Salcru said. "They'll take a long look at him. A few months.

Brek Shea has, of course, been called into the U23 camp for Olympic qualifying and leaves today for Nashville. Brek will likely miss the next three games against Portland, Sporting Kansas City & DC United. We'll take a closer look at how FCD will cope with his absence in the next few days.

CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying begins on March 22, with Group A games being played at LP Field in Nashville and Group B games at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The USA was drawn into Group A with Canada, Cuba and El Salvador, while Group B is composed of Mexico, Honduras, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago.

The semifinal and final matches will be played at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., on March 31 and April 2, respectively.

FC Dallas is running an official March Madness bracket pool with some pretty neat prizes so be sure to fill out a bracket there.

NBC 5 has a cool video feature from Sunday's game with some words from Juergen Klinsmann.

The full schedule for Dallas Cup is out with groups and times. FC Dallas is in the super group with Manchester United, Tigres & SC Cartagines.

Apparently, two clubs made offers to New York for Juan Agudelo. I kind of doubt Dallas was one of them, but it's an interesting thought. NYRB's price was way too high.

Week 1 power rankings are in...Goal.com has FCD at #5...Soccer America has them at #2...SI.com has them at #6...

Drew Epperley had praise for the FC Dallas defense in his review of the week's action

The early TV numbers are in from the opening day game against New York and they're not great, but OK if you compare them to last year on FSC.
