A sellout crowd. Three newcomers. And a season opening win.

Not bad huh folks? The 2-1 win for FC Dallas over the New York Red Bulls was about as good as it could get to start off the new season.

Goals from Zach Loyd and Ricardo Villar helped lead the way while former FCD front-man Kenny Cooper got a goal off the bench for the Red Bulls. Both Dallas goals were off assists from newcomer Blas Perez.

For the most part FCD played very well to get out of the gate with three points. It was a physical game that saw a few cards given but the Dallas defense held strong throughout and caused plenty of issues for New York.

Villar at his best. While he did pick up a knock and could have been subbed out earlier in the game, give credit to Villar for sticking it out and getting a goal early in the second half. He was good in space and was really all over the field today. He linked up well Perez and moved the ball well through the wings to Brek Shea, Fabian Castillo/Carlos Rodriguez.

Great debuts. Two assists for Perez, Hernan Pertuz had a massive debut and Carlos Rodriguez looked very good off the bench. One thing fans should be absolutely happy about is Pertuz though. A lot of discussion about starting George John over him but give credit to Schellas Hyndman for sticking with the young newcomer and giving him the starting nod. Rodriguez was very good off the bench and played well in space. Once he gets on the same page as Perez, he could end up being a big time pickup.

Perez was big, very big. He is absolutely what Hyndman and company have been looking for up top. Not only did he get the two assists but his holding and distribution was absolutely key today. He gave Markus Holgersson and Stephen Keel a hard time all game long.

Midfield depth to be tested. We saw Castillo go out with a knee injury early in the game, and Villar also picked up a knock too. Let's just throw it out there the midfield depth is very weak and will get tested early and often this season. Andrew Jacobson had a solid game but got knocked around, same went for Daniel Hernandez.

Crowd, stadium, etc. Yes the horns were annoying but the crowd was get today. I love the stands by the Beer Garden. A couple players were talking about it after the game and they really love having the fans that close to the action. George John said it was like having a 12th and 13th man right on the field with them. He also said it helped play a huge factor late for them in terms of motivation.
