With a spot in the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic championship game on the line, Schellas gave the reserves a chance to impress against a Toronto FC squad made up of mostly starters. Unfortunately, a first half double from Luis Silva paired with a late Ryan Johnson goal was too much, sending Dallas to a 3-0 defeat.
While the result is not terribly troubling, what is frustrating is that it didn't seem any of the reserves really stepped up. Matt Hedges and Christian Ibeagha struggled mightily against Joao Plata and Danny Koevermans while Geoffrey Tulasne had his second straight game of almost zero contribution. To be fair, I was in the middle of work/driving to Trinity Hall/preoccupied with other stuff to be able to pay full attention for the 90 minutes, but Dallas never really seemed to get going.
The loss sets up a 3rd place showdown game against archrivals Houston Dynamo on Saturday afternoon at 5PM in a game that should feature the starting lineup in the final tuneup before the March 11 season opener. Please note this game will be streamed on ESPN3.com rather than MLSSoccer.com
Scoring Summary:
TOR – Luis Silva 35
