Back on the grid after an eventful trip that saw my sister get married to a great dude and my tire blow out along 35 just north of the Czech Stop(changing a tire along 35 as it's getting dark is simply terrifying.)
Anyways, thanks to Drew & Steve for holding it down around here on what turned out to be a pretty huge weekend for FC Dallas. I'm just kind of going to use this post as a weekend rewind to hit on some stuff that may have been missed.
FCD tied the US U20 team 2-2 yesterday The reserves got some more minutes in against a United States U20 side featuring both Danny Garcia and Boyd Okwuono in the starting XI. Dallas battled back from a 2-0 deficit with goals from homegrowns Top & Luna. Regarding those two, it's great to see Ruben back on the pitch as he had been carrying a little injury. It's obviously a big season for him and he needs to be fully fit from the get go.
Also, look out for Jon Top this season. I've seen something in him in the friendlies to suggest that he has taken a step forward in his development. One of the best crosses of the pre-season came from top in the Memphis friendly to beat 2 defenders and find Wiedeman far post who smashed it home. Look out for this kid, especially next year. Also, Victor Ulloa returned from a little injury as well.
Two new trialists The game against the US saw two new trialists in Mexican forward Juan Carlos Enriquez and French midfielder Geoffrey Tulasne. Both are actually very interesting players as they have decent resumes. Enriquez is a 21 year old forward who made his debut with Santos Laguna not too long ago. Dallas doesn't really need any young forwards right now, however.
Tulasne's resume really makes your eyebrows perk up. A 23 year old French left sided midfielder who has basically spent his whole career with Sochaux in France. It looks like he decided to leave after last year and caught on with a Bulgarian club, but that hasn't really worked out for him. The Frenchman had a run through his country's U21 side and he does have a highlight video. Interesting to track...
The WDW Pro Soccer Classic has played through three days of action so far. On Dallas' side of the bracket, Orlando City SC and Toronto FC played to a very entertaining 2-2 draw leaving all four teams on one point(Highlights).
