While Brek Shea will not be taking part in the USMNT qualifiers tonight and on Tuesday, this evening is absolutely massive for Julian de Guzman and Blas Perez. Here's the situation in CONCACAF Group C qualifying heading into tonight:
Panama leads on 9 points with Honduras and Canada tied on 7. Panama can assure advancing with a win tonight against Honduras or a win over Cuba on Tuesday so their passage is looking very likely.
The more tenuous position falls to Canada who play Cuba tonight and really need to put a hurting on them to improve goal difference. The Maple Leafs have to travel to Honduras on the final day of qualifying, so getting in front of Honduras tonight, as they play a tough game at Panama, is essential.
Needing a draw in San Pedro Sula would be a lot more palatable for Canada than needing to head there with only a win assuring qualification.
Canada has not made the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying since 1998 while Panama has a generation of players with arguably their best ever chance to send La Marea Roja to their first ever World Cup.
