FC Dallas Denies Formal Contact With Dynamo Kiev Over Brek Shea Rumors
News broke earlier this afternoon via Guatemala-based American journalist Brent Latham that Ukranian giants Dynamo Kiev have tabled a shock $10 million bid for FC Dallas star Brek Shea. When contacted for comment on the report, FCD President Doug Quinn poured cold water on the rumor, saying no formal offer for Brek Shea has been made and Dallas is not interesting in receiving an offer.
Dynamo Kiev, while certainly a big club and one that is almost perennially in the Champions League, would be a strange move for Shea, though the money from Ukranian clubs like Dynamo and Shakhtar Donetsk has unexpectedly purchased Brazilian stars like Jadson, Willian and Luiz Adriano.
Shea has returned to Dallas this afternoon as he joins FC Dallas for pre-season training after spending the majority of January with the US Men's National Team.
Edit: The greatness of Greg Seltzer, as he normally does, set the story straight tonight and says Kiev tabled an offer months ago that was quickly rejected.
These kinds of stealth bids will likely be rolling in for Shea in the coming weeks and months until he is finally sold so get used to them. FCD and Brek will make the move when it is right for him and I think the organization has made it exceedingly clear that the guy is not going anywhere for the 2012 season.

That would suck
for us here who will want to continue watching him when he does leave… I can’t ever recall seeing a live Dynamo game. I’ve seen a couple of replays though.
I’m pulling for a move to Arsenal when his time comes. At least I can full on cheer him with a team I enjoy watching.

Screw Arsenal
I’d rather see him at Chelsea, where he’d have a better chance of winning trophies!
but not play?
Deeper pocket teams fail to play young guys very often, I admit Arsenal is just as guilty but I think Arsene would be a much better guy to learn under vs. whatever coach Chelsea is going through right now…

if that offer is made...
I’d think $10mm is the point at which FCD has to seriously consider selling.
When he does leave, a club like Dynamo seems pretty close to ideal. Deep enough pockets for the transfer but a roster that’s thin enough to break into the XI quickly. I’d hate to see him sit on a bench for a couple years in London or Milan.

$10M
How much of that $10M would be for FC Dallas? I assume the MLS want a piece of that pie as well. As a fan I hope he stays, but I would understand if FCD let him go for $10M. I don’t think Arsenal will pay that much for him in a few years.
According to quick research googling:
For a draftee that’s been in the league 3+ years like Brek, 2/3 club and 1/3 MLS (would be 75/25 for a homegrown).
If memory serves, the club also gets a percentage of the fee as allocation $, too, but I believe that’s capped at $400k or $500k.

I agree...he could go many worse places
Realizing this is almost certainly not going to happen…it wouldn’t be a bad place for Brek to land next.
Obviously there are many opinions on European league rankings, but you can see from the UEFA site’s method that these leagues are not far behind the Big 5 and quite a bit higher than the Nordics where we have frequently seen young US players move.
Brek is young enough to go a place like this, get a lot of playing time, (hopefully) top-level coaching and then make the move to a bigger league.
PS: Not that we’d get to see much of it on TV, but the idea of Brek crossing balls into Shevchenko seems pretty surreal…
I'd have to say this offer probably happened
Nothing is as effective as a public denial to confirm these types of rumors…just ask any coach whose board has expressed “complete faith” in them and then fired them the next day.
*shrug*
I would hope Doug wouldn’t effectively lie to my face and then have FCD send out lies on Twitter.
Brek isn’t going to Ukraine.

Nothing in it for Brek
I think that considering that Brek signed a new long contract with FCD that the club will take into account his leanings on something like this. I don’t see anything in it for Brek besides boatloads of cash. If he was willing to go anyplace, he could have done like G John and not signed an extension (which I don’t blame George for).
I think that with Brek Shea, Doug would not tell the whole truth and neither would the club.
That's a ton of scrilla.
But, I wouldn’t want to go to Ukraine. Nothing against the Ukraine its just not the football center of the universe. COYS!!
