good start
so – is anyone taking odds on whether this loan turns into a transfer or not?

50-50 and I think that’s about accurate.

Closed door friendly?
was this somewhere between a reserve match and a first team match? Do we know if any of the first team players were playing or was it all reserves?
Interesting
Official tweet from WHU seemed to mention a 1-1 draw…
Regardless, GJ fills out the kit well and looks like he is focused…and already scoring! I hope this transfer works out for him as it seems to be his dream to play abroad and he could do a lot worse than a storied club like WHU who is likely to be promoted. I would imagine, barring any slip-ups, he will do well enough to warrant the transfer as the price is likely a bargain by EPL standards. Still, the ultimate decision will probably come down to other roster moves/decisions by WHU rather than GJ’s performance.
Hope to catch a game on FSC/FSP soon!
Comparative Transfer Fees
Did you see the latest on Tim Ream’s expected transfer to Bolton? Interesting that he would bring in $3MM while GJ is expected to have a value near $300k? I wonder if FCD can still renegotiate or if the $300k value was already built into the loan-option-to-buy arrangement?
Contract situation
Tough to get a ton of money for a guy that they can have for free next year.
Ream has two years left on his deal.

Thanks
I figured that played a role, but I had no idea it could be a 10x difference. Great value move for an EPL or top Championship club – no doubt.
It's that important
Remember that Blackburn offered $2mm for GJ last year with 1.5 seasons left on his contract.
In the last year of a contract, West Ham would even have the option of negotiating with GJ now for a contract to play for them after leaving Dallas on a free after the 2012 season. Beckham did just that when he left Madrid for LA. If West Ham doesn’t develop an immediate need for him, that could be the likely outcome. Even if he comes back to Frisco, it could be implicitly short term.
not the worst that could happen
especially if he’s resigned at that point to giving his best for FCD for 2012 and moving on at the end of the season. If he’s here, and his head is focused on being here, then he’s a real asset that can push us towards a Supporter’s Shield run this year (if Ferreira is healthy, Blas produces, and Shea stays, I think John makes us a real threat).
Given our newfound depth in the back though, I suspect we might be a threat without John, so I’m cautiously hoping this West Ham deal pans out. $300K is better than nothing.
