Sources Confirm Carlos Rodriguez to FC Dallas

The Panamanian invasion has begun. (Anayansi Gamez)

Sources have confirmed to me that Tauro FC outside back Carlos Rodriguez will be heading to FC Dallas on a transfer. Rodriguez is mainly a left back, but can play on either side of the defense. The 21-year-old impressed with Tauro FC in their two matches against FC Dallas in CONCACAF Champions League, particularly in the match down in Panama registering an assist and terrorizing the Dallas defense down the left side. He comes to Dallas as outside back cover for Jair Benitez and Zach Loyd, though looking at his highlights it's not inconceivable that he could push into midfield on occasion.

The Panamanian slots into an FC Dallas defense that is beginning to take shape with the additions of Matt Hedges and Hernan Pertuz as well as the potential departure of George John to West Ham. Sources have told me the deal will be announced officially by FC Dallas within the next day or two.

Good News

I definitely think this is a season where Benitez’ legs will catch up with him.

Good signing at a great time, I’m liking this new defensive group, hopefully they can all work well together.

Me too.

Hopefully they can be very solid this year.

If they paid a transfer fee,

This is probably the first time of many that FCD will take advantage of MLS’ new young DP rule.
Max of $200k off the salary cap for this kid. I vaguely remember being impressed with him during those CL games. Looking forward to seeing all these new players in action.

probably not on salary alone, but

Castillo was DP last year based on transfer fee alone. It seems likely to me that fee + salary for a promising 21 year old is likely greater than $200k. Of course they could have used allocation $ from chavez trade to pay down part of transfer fee to reduce cap hit, too.
Seems unlikely they’d use 2nd DP slot on anyone else this season anyway. After all, they still have 3rd DP available should an awesome RM come calling.

Yeah that's true.

Fabian is no longer a DP this year if I remember correctly.

Torched

Tauro’s entire defense played very aggresive and kept FCD on their heels. With their speed and unsual style of defense it took FCD a bit of time to adjust. Speed Kills!
