Some Pre-Season Roster Tidbits
Got the FCD pre-season roster today from FCD PR and there's a few nuggets to share ahead of my first trip out to practice tomorrow morning.
Scott Gordon is back No I'm not talking about the NBC 5 reporter, towering center back Scott Gordon from Lynn University is back with FCD for his second pre-season in a row. The third round draft pick from 2011 was very impressive in pre-season for Dallas last year and was perhaps the last person cut from the roster depending on who you talk to. Physically, he's as fit as anyone on the team and he would've have been brought back in if there wasn't much of a chance of making the roster. Gordon should compete with Jack Stewart, Alex Lee and a couple other guys for the final center back spot.
Two other defenders Christian Ibeagha and Martin John are in camp with FCD. Ibeagha is a former Duke star from Houston that played with Dallas in a reserve game or two last year. He's a big, strong defender that was hampered by a major injury in college and wasn't able to catch on in Europe.
Martin John is an English/Canadian outside back that comes to Dallas after spending some time with Cardiff City in Wales. He's a left back that was offered a contract by Colorado last season, but could not come to acceptable terms. Our SBN Colorado Rapids blog, Burgundy Wave, chatted about John with a Cardiff City blogger, definitely worth reading.
Gordon, Ibeagha and John join Scott Sealy as four trialists to begin pre-season. We'll have more roster breakdown later as we now know at least most of the 2012 pre-season roster.

John, Sealy, and Cardiff
Martin John sounds really promising, and he’s certainly got the right last name to play defense on FCD. ;)
I’m also intrigued by Scott Sealy, simply because of his years of professional experience. Admittedly I haven’t paid enough attention to MLS over the past couple of years to have an informed opinion on him as a player. Do you think his lack of goals with San Jose had more to do with a weak San Jose team or something more personal?
One little thing, and I hate to be the one to say it, but Cardiff is in Wales, not England.
Oy
I knew that….written too quick on my break :( Fixed
I am intrigued by Scott Sealy too. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in pre-season, there’s certainly a roster spot there to be won if he can get his game together.

Since we’re talking about preseason, noticed that Maicon Santos is at DC United. So I guess FCD no longer holds his rights?
Nope
If a players option is not picked up and he is re entry draft eligible he becomes a free agent…see Scott sealy in dallas
