Jackson Goncalves Not Returning to FC Dallas in 2012?
Huge news out of Brazil as Globo, the ESPN of Brazil, is reporting that Cruzeiro have signed Jackson from Sao Paulo for the upcoming Brazilian season. The article says Jackson is already in Belo Horizonte undergoing a physical and has signed for the club on a one year loan to buy option.
FC Dallas couldn't confirm the news, though I'm sure we will hear more soon. Needless to say there is another huge hole in the FCD lineup at right midfield now and something that Schellas Hyndman couldn't have seen coming. More reaction to come on this once the news is confirmed by FCD.
Edit: This article from Esporte sheds a little more light on the situation. The last line is very curious...could be something lost in translation.
A spokesperson for Cruise confirmed the negotiations and that the athlete is already in Belo Horizonte. In the morning, and medical examinations conducted in the afternoon went to the Fox's Lair II to discuss details of the contract. The player stands on a year with an option to purchase at the end of the year. The economic rights of the athlete belong to the American club.

By the way
Globo is a very reputable source. About as reputable as it gets in Brazil.

Queue Castillo
for the starting role now.
Also, this frees up an international spot for the Tauro guys?

Forgive my ignorance
Was his loan deal to FCD over? If not was there some clause stating they can pull him back whenever they want?
Who knows
One article that I just posted makes it sound like FCD owns his rights and are loaning him to Cruzeiro.
Perhaps Jackson didn’t want to come back, who knows? Lots of questions…

I've heard
he hasn’t bothered to learn much English, perhaps he’s just not happy here? This could be best for the team if he’s been a disruption.

Very strange
As far as I understood it, MLS always insists their loans include an option to buy. Has that changed? Was the option too expensive? Did Cruzeiro pay some cash to FCD? Is it all BS (even reputable sources get stories wrong sometimes)?
Certainly clarifies draft strategy if true.

Wow.
Does this means Dallas has to go winger in the draft?
It means
we shouldn’t have traded “Break like the Wind”
Actually
maybe it’s a GoogleTranslate issue and Jackson is just going on a cruise. Maybe it’s a Disney cruise and he’s going to meet us in Orlando for that annual preseason tournament in which we like to participate. Didn’t he get married last season? This could be the honeymoon.
Or...
maybe he purchased a Chevrolet Cruze. A purchase of an American car like that could signal that he is finally integrating himself into the US culture. Learning English can’t be far behind, can it?
winger in draft?
I don’t think there’s a suitable player in the draft that would be ready for first team action right away. This has to force Castillo on the pitch or even, Leyva (I think he is the young guy who’s a mid).
by Timothy Winning Voyles on Jan 11, 2012 5:39 PM CST up reply actions
Yup Leyva.
First homegrown. Isn’t Sam Garza a wing midfield?
Our depth chart on right mid...
…is looking thin. If Castillo can adapt to life on the right, I have to think he gets the nod over Leyva or Guarda (slighltly out of position) among the youngsters. More likely though (and unfortunately) I have to think this gives either Villar or Cruz (or both) a new lease on life at the club, unless another trade happens.
This sure rubs salt in the still blood-gushing Chavez wound…but I suspect Coach Hyndman really didn’t see this coming, so…it happens.

agree about the salt in the wound
I am not sure how you trade Chavez without having Jackson locked up. Right now SH has no one as a scape goat on this move since Gorman had already (unofficially) been let go before the Chavez trade. I hate that we were suppose to add depth this offseason and now have gone from being thin in the back to thin everywhere.
Not too upset about this, I think ???
I want my Club to exude Class, on & off the pitch. I want my Club full of Sheas & Loyds…a team that oozes energy & flair on the pitch but with a “workman-like attitude.”
Mr. Jackson has skill, talent & his versatility is/has been incredible to the squad…but he also seems to be a time-bomb waiting to explode and I’d just assume he doesn’t do it here. JG seems to have a “me-first attitude” rather than that workman-like attitude.
Maybe I’m old (34) & more traditonal in this day & age of self-promotion (tweets & facebooking) but if you can’t pay for multiple Championships, there is nothing wrong with being a class organization that is respected for doing things the right way, on and off the pitch. Letting go of the me-first attitude could possibly be addition by subtraction ???

Not really sure what Jacksons “problem” would have been. He got plenty of shots to impress, all over the pitch.
JG, I could see being a little bitter, stuck at 40k per year. If they offered him some lowball contract to keep him, he could have put staying at fcd out of his mind. Any player in the world wants to end up in epl, spain, bunds, series a… but rarely are they striving for mls (sadly). If a player is content with mls there’s usually a lack of skill involved or a deep wanting to push us soccer (donovan). I have no clue what was offered to JG in the contracts btw, but I’d think it’s more than just a paycheck issue. The guy wants to play against the best in the world?

The problem
for me is not that Jackson is leaving. My kneejerk reaction after the season was to ship him back to Brazil never to be seen again.
The problem is that they’ve traded Marvin Chavez and have no one to play right mid now. Fabian Castillo is fine, but he doesn’t play the defense that schellas wants from his starters.
This team is paper thin, Jackson was a glue guy that could play 4 or 5 positions in a pinch.

a few things to consider
could this just be a move to get the extra international spot we would need for the Tauro guys?
is this a financial thing? keeping him would have cost more than we could afford? he is said to have made around 105k last year, are we scrambling for the extra funds not having him would bring?
was his attitude too much to handle?
A lot of unanswered questions around this move, as always with FCD. Man I wish they would be a little more transparent with the public!!!

I have to admit...
despite whatever “issues” Jax may have had, I am sad to see him leave. He had a few OMG moments every time he played. Not every player can bring that kind of excitement every game, I’ll miss that most of all.
by Timothy Winning Voyles on Jan 12, 2012 9:30 AM CST reply actions
Yep Jax was a stud
Like his attitude or hate it, the guy’s one of the more talented offensive players in this league. We went from having a Top 3 offensive lineup on paper to a “WTF are we going to do at right midfield/wing?!” lineup with this move.
There’s nobody left on this roster after the Chavez departure who is capable of providing what he or Jax could at that position. Other than very young, unproven players…we, quite frankly, can’t even replace the speed threat in that wide midfield position, much less the offense.
I really have to agree that SH could not have seen this coming, but I also have to blame him for not ensuring that one of either Chavez or Jax was locked up going into the season.
agree
I’ll miss him unconditionally – attitude or no. If they were all Shea, then we’d just be distracted by the hair, and not even notice the game
