A little bit of news for you...48 hours from now FCD will be getting ready to play in Mexico City against Pumas. That's exciting. Now we've just got to get the TV situation sorted out as the game is not being shown live on FSC and I don't see it on any of the Spanish stations either on my TV listings.
Seen on the MLS Kickoff Today: Maicon Santos and friends engaged in a new Brazilian goal scoring craze. Seems alright to me...
One writer ran into Chris Seitz's fiancee and Brek Shea's girlfriend at the game in Philly on Saturday. Yes, there is a picture...solid.
Goal.com is reporting that European clubs are interested in Brek Shea....and I'd like to report that the sky is indeed blue. I think the most interesting thing about this story is that Brek Shea's agent is one Spencer Wadsworth, former FCD forward and Plano West alum. From what I've been told about him, a serious ankle injury really killed a promising career.
There is definitely interest in Brek from the teams in the Premier League,” said Shea’s agent Spencer Wadsworth to Goal.com. “But it’s not just England, its teams from Germany, Holland and Belgium also.”
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I see no reason to think Brek Shea would leave until after next season. With the Olympics coming up, I can't see him unsettling himself before then and I think leaving this winter would be extremely unlikely given he's just 6 months into his contract that stretches until 2015.
Robbie Keane is indeed signing for the LA Galaxy. While this signing could certainly be one that seals the Supporter's Shield for Los Angeles, it doesn't really worry me too much in terms of LA vs FCD. Dallas is a team that got beat on the set piece against LA, they struggled to break them down in the run of play. Keane is not really a threat on set pieces for the most part.
Also, we've seen time and again that it takes even great players a few months to figure out the league. I see Keane terrorizing the league in 2012, but I don't expect a whole lot from this season.
'I am delighted, honoured and very excited to be joining the LA Galaxy,'' Keane told The Galaxy's website. ''I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it's the perfect combination for me and a dream come true.
''My family and I have already been made to feel very welcome in telephone calls from (Galaxy owner) Tim Leiweke and (manager) Bruce Arena.
''Also when David Beckham came and trained at Spurs (in January) recently he couldn't speak highly enough about the Galaxy, their fans and the league in general, so I can't wait to get over and get started.''
New York is on the verge of missing the playoffs...and I think that's funny.
The Red Bulls are 1-4-5 in their past 10 MLS games. They have won one league game since June 10 and two since April. And those wins came against the lowly New England Revolution and Toronto FC. In March and April, the Red Bulls had a winning percentage of .570. Since then, they've won just two more, or 11 percent, of their 18 games and have looked progressively worse. Only five of the league's 18 teams have won fewer games this season.
Pumas are getting ready for FC Dallas. A team they "Know very little about." I've seen in multiple places that there will be U20 players starting for Pumas in these games. I like the sound of Brek Shea going up against an U20 defender.
"We know very little, really. You have to work with the seriousness that we have always had, we have the quality to get the victory, as at home is always bound to get the three points, "he added.
Finally, Shakira was in Dallas with her boyfriend Pique and Barcelona last week. She called me trying to find a time to catch up, but I just couldn't fit her into my schedule unfortunately.
Shakira, cheering on soccer stud (and boyfriend) Gerard Piqué as his team, FC Barcelona, played in Dallas, Texas. The singer also stopped in to Morton's the Steakhouse, where she shared a ribeye and porterhouse steak with her group. And the singer was happy to pose for pictures with the staff, a source says.
