Back from the holiday weekend with some FCD stuff...I made it out to practice this morning and had a nice chat with Schellas that I'll get up later when I can be motivated to transcribe. For now some FCD alumni news and more...
Anyone remember Chase Wileman? Former SMU midfielder who got into one game for FCD back in the early days of Schellas Hyndman's tenure....He's got a new gig as an assistant coach at Dartmouth.
A Seattle local news website has a nice look at George John with some funny quotes.
Anybody who’s ever been to Texas knows it doesn’t really have a lot of natural beauty," John said. "So it was definitely tough for me coming from Shoreline. I definitely learned to appreciate the natural beauty of the Northwest.”
It's always interesting to see things from the other team's view and Shawn Mitchell's Crew Review is decent reading.
The Crew wilted in the furnace that was Frisco, Texas, where FC Dallas torched the Crew in a game that should have been won by a wider margin. The game-time temperature was 95 degrees and FC Dallas, built for speed, ran hot from the opening whistle. It bombarded the Crew with 26 shots, the most allowed by the Crew this season and two fewer than the Crew's team record.
Kyle McCarthy of Goal.com has FCD at the top of the league
David Ferreira's absence should have killed FC Dallas' chances, but Schellas Hyndman has done a masterful job of keeping his speedy and talented group near the top of the Western Conference table
Tonight is a massive night in the league with a doubleheader on ESPN2 featuring the three teams FCD is fighting with at the top of the West.
RSL goes up against New England and you've got to say FCD is lucky to face an RSL team on Saturday that will be playing on fairly short rest. If Will Johnson gets a yellow card tonight, he will be out for the FCD game Saturday.
Then the marquee game is Los Angeles vs Seattle. I think all FCD fans will be pulling for a draw with plenty of red cards in this one.
Finally, tonight Richard Sanchez and Mexico face France in a huge quarterfinal in the U17 World Cup
