Time To Start Campaigning Brek Shea For MVP

TORONTO, CANADA - JULY 20: Ty Harden #20 of Toronto FC battles for the ball with Brek Shea #20 of FC Dallas during MLS action at BMO Field July 20, 2011 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Photo by Abelimages/Getty Images)

I know Daniel mentioned it either last night or today that he wants everyone in DFW to know of Brek Shea by next year but honestly the time is now. Shea scored his team-leading ninth goal last night in the 1-0 victory in Toronto. His golazo was something special too and possibly he 21-year old's coming out party for most people around the league.

I counted lots of folks all over the internet on Twitter talking about Shea and how important he is to the club. Well, its time to really start taking note of it and doing something about it. The team has to start the marketing right away if they haven't already here around Shea. He's a young kid that people should come to like, weird hair and all.

Star-divide

I'm always hesitant to see teams campaign for players this early in the season for things like this but consider how these awards are voted on for a moment. The players, coaches, GMs and media all get a say (that is unless they change it some how this season). The ballots are usually handed out fairly early for players so they don't really vote on the latter part of the season (a big reason why David Ferreira beat out Chris Wondolowski last season).

I think it's high time the club and everyone that follows the team start campaigning for Shea here. Just look at the league and who's doing what in it this season. I'd love to see a Facebook page by the club for this as well as folks starting to use the lovely hashtag on Twitter: #Shea4MVP. Don't worry I'm not taking the claim for coming up with that one just yet.

I know you can make a case for a lot of guys right now for the league MVP but none are as big as Shea's right now. He's been a monster ever since moving from the defense back to the midfield and he's scoring quality goals in bunches here.

At his current pace he could easily get to 17 or 18 goals on the season. With Dallas so close to the top of the league table, they need all the Shea goals they can get until the forwards start producing.

So, what do you all think? Is it too soon to start the campaign? At the rate he's going I don't think it is. I just hope for the club's sake he can keep it up with all the upcoming games.

Look at the competetion....

It is never to early when he could be going against Donovan and Henry for the MVP this year. Those two players should be expected to do more to earn it but name alone gets them more votes.
