Eric Avila Set For Possible Loan Deal With Atlas
Both Daniel and I have been talking for months that FC Dallas could move Eric Avila at some point to make room for a new addition or to gather some all important allocation money. Well, the club announced Friday that Avila is traveling to Mexico to possibly go on loan with Mexican side CF Atlas Guadalajara, which has expressed interest in acquiring Avila on a six-month loan.
(Read on for more)
This is a very interesting move if it does happen. Dallas is able to free up a roster spot while Avila gets the all important time away from the club that he does need. Playing time does concern me a bit with him going to an international side like this but if they are expressing interest in him it could end up meaning a potential buy-out from Dallas to move there permanently. That kind of thing means Dallas could see a small transfer fee come their way.
We wish Avila nothing but the best in this possible loan move too. I've always said he is a favorite of mine and I hope to see him do well down in Mexico if this loan deal goes through.
I would expect this means that if Avila moves Dallas could have an open roster spot to make a deal with the summer transfer window opening up here soon. Doug Quinn and Barry Goreman have both talk recently about how the club will be making moves. This could be something that helps it out.

Good for all sides
I’ve never wanted Avi to go but he’s a great talent and just not getting minutes here. I wish him the best of luck at Atlas.
Interesting move
There’s almost ALWAYS a purchase option on these types of moves, and you wonder if Avi’s style of play will translate better to the Mexican league. It will be extremely interesting to watch him this year and I can almost guarantee you this move is a pre-cursor to Dallas signing someone.

Historically, when FCD lent out one of their extra GKs I thought that player still counted toward the roster limit. Am I misremembering? Did the rule change?

Lambo
I think that was only true of Lambo because he was a GA player. They take up roster spots due to the contract they have with MLS is different than most other contracts. That is my understanding.
I hope Avila does get the playing time I think he will be a really good player but for whatever reason he is not making the break through here.
Avila loan
With 8 games this month it seems like a bad time (to me) to be loaning out Avila. I know he doesn’t seem to fit in Hyndman’s plans (very often) but FCD is going to need all the depth they can get in the coming weeks to survive the upcoming schedule.
Well remember
July 15 is the date you can officially add new players. Only 3 of the 8 games are before July 15…just a thought.
As I said, this move would probably not have happened if Dallas wasn’t pretty sure someone else was coming in.
