FCD looks to get back on track today as they head to Vancouver to take on a a Whitecaps side that has also won just once this season.
Goals goals goals Vancouver is tied for the most goals scored in the league this season with nine, while they're one of four teams to have given up at least ten goals themselves. There's been six goals scored in two of the four games at Empire Field this season, so look for spaces to open up on both sides of the ball.
Set Piece defending When Dallas loses this season, they get beat on set pieces. Watch closely how Dallas defends set pieces to day as big Eric Hassli lurks around the box.
Lots of injuries for Vancouver Michael Nanchoff, Jay DeMerit, Atiba Harris, Shea Salinas, Russell Teibert and John Thorrington are all doubtful for the game. This is a huge advantage for Dallas, as Harris is a guy that has always given FCD problems while DeMerit's abilities on the defensive side are obvious.
Brek at left mid? With FCD in Portland the entire week, no one knows what kind of lineup we will see today, but today could signal the return of Brek Shea to left mid. Dallas was much more dangerous with Shea on the left side against Portland in the second half. All you have to do is look at the overwhelming votes of our poll to see where the fans think Brek Shea should play.
A brand new referee this week in only his second MLS game. He gave a red card in his first, so we'll see how things go this afternoon.
REFEREE: Juan Guzman. SAR (bench): Fabio Tovar; JAR (opposite): Ian Anderson; 4th: Baldomero Toledo
MLS Career: 1 game; FC/gm: 30.0; Y/gm: 3.0; R: 1; pens: 0
We hear from Schellas on multiple topics in Bruce Contantineau's article for the Vancouver Sun
"We absolutely hated the fact we lost Atiba and we tried to get him back but they were not interested," Hyndman said. "They got a great one there - one of my favourites. He can play at right midfield or as a striker or a holding midfielder.
Schellas Hyndman’s famous butter leather jacket has been spotted this week and could be eyeing a return to the lineup on Saturday. The Dallas skipper has been non-committal about the possibility of the jacket’s return, but it is on the trip and certainly a possibility should Vancouver temps dip on Saturday.
"I'm concerned that we're giving up early goals," Hyndman said. "We're trying to recognize that our strength is our defense, but in five games we've given up eight goals, which is a little bit embarrassing if that's our strength."
Last time I predicted an FCD loss, the team won 3-0 so hopefully the same holds true today. Vancouver hasn't won in awhile and they're going to give FCD everything they've got today. Vancouver jumps out to an early lead, Shea pulls one back but the Whitecaps win it in the second half leaving Dallas to lick their wounds as they head home.
