Five minutes with Schellas Hyndman after today's game

HARRISON, NJ - APRIL 17: Schellas Hyndman coach of the FC Dallas watches his team warm before the match against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on April 17, 2010 in Harrison, New Jersey. The Red Bulls defeated the FC Dallas 2-1. (Photo by Chris Trotman/Getty Images)

The reward for going to a reserve game on a Sunday morning? Five minutes of exclusive chatting with Schellas Hyndman. Understandably he didn't seem to be in a huge mood for talking given this afternoon is probably the first time off they've had in weeks, but there's some pretty interesting stuff in here, enjoy.

Through the third pre-season with the team now, how do you feel this time compared to previous years?

Obviously much more relaxed and much more aware of where we are and where we need to go. Before you were just kind of off the cuff trying to do things, right now it's a better idea of where we are and where we need to improve. Our areas we're lacking focus on.

Today against Central Arkansas was something like your fifth shutout in the row of the pre-season, you've got to be happy about that.

Yeah, I think it's great. We got a chance to use different players. I don't know how many people recognize it but today for that last 25 minutes we had six academy players on the field. That's a lot of young players to have on the field at one time. I was really pleased with our three central midfielders, Warshaw, Jacobson and Guarda. I kept them in the game for the whole time and I thought they looked very well.

Then what you do is you fill in the other pieces, Jack Coleman, Michael Ambrose, they came in and really did well for us.

Keep Reading for more on Brek Shea moving to center back, when will Fabian Castillo get here and more

Star-divide

You've got to be encouraged to see Ruben in last night's game getting under the skin of an experience defender like Jimmy Conrad and getting the better of him

Yeah, I think Ruben is going to be a handful in this league. He brings a lot of really good things, he's strong, physical, young and scores goals. He's going to cause a lot of defenders problems.

You said you wanted Brek Shea moving to center back on opening day is this going to be a permanent thing or just something until Ugo gets back?

Well I think it could be permanent. He's a very very good player. You know the thing he brings which a lot of center backs don't bring is...he's got a great distribution.

He can knock a 55 or 60 yard diagonal ball, he can play a first time ball to people's feet and I think the way he gets better is to play in that position more and more. So we're hoping that we can keep him in there.

If you move Brek to center back full time that obviously leaves an opening at left mid, is this something you're hoping Eric Avila can take ownership of?

Well right now Avila is the player that we have penciled into that spot. Eric Alexander can go out there. When Ugo comes back, we can move Jackson to the midfield where he's played.

We've also got a boy named Fabian Castillo who can go out there. So what I'm trying to do is play a very good top 11 and then another four or five that can help us because this year we've got a lot of games

Speaking of Castillo are you hoping to get him in this week?

The hardest thing for him is just to get the appointment at the embassy because he's got his P1 visa so when he goes in there it will be a lot easier to get that done.
