This morning, FC Dallas traveled to Swope Park in Kansas City to take on SKC in the final match of the 2011 FC Dallas season. It turned out to be the Ruben Luna show as the young forward scored four(!) times in a 5-3 victory with the fifth goal coming from Bryan Leyva, another homegrown signing.
Justin Mayhugh over at The Daily Wiz has a game recap with a little bit of description that's definitely worth reading. Hopefully the teams come out with a more thorough press release as I'd love to hear more detail on Luna's amazing performance.
Luna ends the 2011 Reserve League season as the top scorer with 10 goals in 10 games, double the next closest player. He scored in the last four reserve games with 7 goals in those four games and counting reserve league, CCL and MLS scored in 6 of the last 7 games he played in 2011. Luna did not make the bench for the playoff loss to New York.
Among the other cool notes from today's game is the start of FCD Academy player Mark Ashby(committed to Harvard) in central defense as well as the goal for Leyva in stoppage time to round off what was a very impressive reserve league season for him.
FC Dallas lineup: Chris Seitz (Josh Lambo 46'), Andrew Wiedeman, Jack Stewart, Ashby, Moises Hernandez, Bobby Warshaw, Bruno Guarda (Kellyn Acosta), Victor Ulloa, Bryan Leyva, Ruben Luna, Maykel Galindo (Jonathan Top 46')
